With iOS 16, Apple introduces a new mechanism in its software updates that allows smaller security updates (patches) to be distributed without having to do a full system update. These so-called rapid security responses are small software packages that can be installed quickly.
Aim
The aim is to control the rapid security measures that Apple makes available via the software updates from now on with the help of two, new policies.
Implementation
- Select Administration→ Policies in the Cortado Administration Portal.
- Click on the plus button to create a new Policy (arrow in illus.).
- Then select iOS/iPadOS.
- Keep the supervised devices enrollment method (arrow in the illus.).
Under OS Updates, you will find the following (enabled by default) policies (arrows in illus.):
- Allow installation of rapid security responses
- Allow removal of rapid security responses
Note! Fast security measures are not coupled with the deferment of managed software updates. However, because they are applied only to the latest minor operating system version, if the minor operating system update is deferred, the measure is also deferred.
By removing the checkmark from the checkbox, Allow installation of rapid security responses, you prevent the security measures from being automatically installed on users' devices. However, subsequent operating system updates will include the patches that were previously deployed on short notice. Unlike the usual system updates, the security measures can be easily removed after installation - for example, in the event of problems.
If you do not want users to be able to remove the updates, deselect the Allow removal of quick security responses checkbox.
