This feature is already available in our new administration portal. The new portal is currently in beta. Instructions for using the new portal can be found at the end of this article.
Note! This option is available only for supervised iOS devices and fully managed Android devices.
Supervised iOS devices
- In the Administration Portal select a device under Administration→ Devices (upper arrow in illus.).
- Then click on Enable Lost Mode (lower arrow in illus.).

With Enable Lost Mode, the device can be located, even if the location service on the device itself may have been switched off. The device itself only needs to be switched on and a connection to the Apple server established via Wi-Fi or 3G.
- Enter a message and your telephone number.

- You will receive a notification that Lost Mode has been activated on the device.
- On the iOS device, the screen will now remain locked and the above entered message displayed (left illus.).
- In this mode, the device can only be unlocked again via the Administration Portal.

- As soon as the device registers with the server, you will receive another message. Confirm the message with OK.
- The device location will then be displayed.

- The date and time, when the device was last located are shown.
- In addition, information about the location appears on the display of the device.

- To search for the device location again, click on Request Device Location (upper arrow in illus.).
- Using Disable Lost Mode deactivates lost mode again (lower arrow in illus.).
- The last known location of the device can also be displayed after the end of the loss mode using the Show Last Location button.

Fully managed Android devices (COBO)
Note! This feature is not available for company-owned devices with a work profile (COPE) for data protection reasons.
- In the Administration Portal select a device under Administration→ Devices (upper arrow in illus.).
- Then click on Enable Lost Mode (lower arrow in illus.).

- Enter a message and your telephone number.
- Set up a new device PIN.

- Thereupon, the screen on the Android device will be locked and the above-entered message displayed.
- In this mode, the device can only be unlocked again via the Administration Portal.

- As soon as the device registers with the server, you will receive another message. Confirm the message with OK.
- The device location will then be displayed.
- The date and time, when the device was last located are shown.

- To search for the device location again, click on Request Device Location in the console (upper arrow in illus.).
- Using Disable Lost Mode deactivates lost mode again (lower arrow in illus.).
- The last known location of the device can also be displayed after the end of the loss mode using the Show Last Location button.

If using this button fails to switch off lost mode on a fully managed Android device, when there is no internet connection for instance, you can use a Recovery token to close down this mode (right arrow in illus.).
- Tap the screen five times (left illus.). Then enter the Recovery token (right illus.).

- This will exit the lost mode.
NEW ADMINISTRATION PORTAL: Enable Lost Mode for fully managed devices
The new administration portal is currently in the beta phase. You are welcome to send us your feedback on the new portal using the corresponding button (at the bottom left of the new administration portal).
Note! This feature is only available for supervised iOS/iPadOS devices and fully managed
- Select a supervised iOS/iPadOS or fully managed Android device (COBO) in device management (lower arrow in illus., example).
- Then click on Enable Lost Mode (upper arrow in illus.).

By clicking on Enable Lost Mode, Lost Mode can be activated for a device even if the location services on the device itself are turned off. The device only needs to be turned on and connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi or 3G.
- Enter a message and your phone number.

- The screen on the device will then be locked and the message/phone number entered in the last step will be displayed (left image: Android; right image: iPhone).
- In this mode, the device can only be unlocked again via the administration portal.

- As soon as the device logs into Cortado, its location can be retrieved.
- To do this, open the device details by clicking on the device in the administration portal and switch to the Location tab (arrow in the image).
- The date and time show when the device was last located.

- As long as Lost Mode is activated, the last known location of the device can be displayed.
- If you want to deactivate Lost Mode again, select your device in Device Management and then click on Disable Lost Mode (arrow in the image).

Note! If the loss mode of a fully managed Android device cannot be disabled using this button, for example because there is no Internet connection, you can use a recovery token to exit the mode (right arrow in the image). Currently, you can only find the recovery token in the device management section of the old administration portal (arrow in the image).
- Tap the screen five times (left image). Then enter the recovery token (right image).
- This will end loss mode.
Note! This option is also available as a bulk action. To do this, simply select multiple devices and click on Batch Actions.
