How do I create an Exchange profile for macOS devices?

You can create a Microsoft Exchange profile for your users. This means that users do not need to set up a new email account on their mobile device. For more information, please refer to Apple's help pages.

  • First, proceed as described here.
  • Select Exchange as the profile you want to add. The following dialog box will open.

Make the following settings:

  •  Profile name/ Account name: Enter a name for the profile or account here.
  •  EWS host and port: Enter the address of your Exchange server and the port here. If you are using Exchange Online, enter outlook.office365.com under Host and 443 under Port (example shown in illus.).
  •  User: Enter the domain name of the user. With Auto (UPN), this is read automatically. Alternatively, you can also use variables.
Note! Provided that the UPN has been previously stored in the user settings.
  • Email address: Here you can enter the user's email address. If you select Automatic, it will be read automatically.
  • Password: A password can be entered here if desired. Users will then not need to authenticate themselves on their mobile device in order to use the Exchange account. If you do not enter anything in this field, users will need to enter their password whenever they want to access their emails.
  •  Identity certificate: If you use certificates that are not provided by a trusted certification authority (CA) (known to the devices), you can select them here. To do so, first activate the Use SSL checkbox. Certificates for which you have previously set up an SCEP profile or a certificate profile will then appear here as options.
  • EWS path: Enter the server path for the internal Exchange host here.
  • Send large attachments with Mail Drop: This setting determines whether Mail Drop is displayed as an option when sending large files in the Mail app.
  • Use SSL: Select this option if you want to encrypt the connection between the mail app on the end devices and the Exchange server via SSL.
  • Use OAuth for authentication: Select this checkbox if you want to use OAuth for authentication. If you select OAuth, the password field should remain empty.
  • OAuth Sign In URL: Enter the URL that this account should use to log in via OAuth here. If a URL is specified, automatic detection will not be used for this account, so you must also specify a host.
  • External EWS host and port: Enter the address of your external Exchange server and the port here. This is the IP address or fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the external Exchange host.
  • External EWS path: Enter the server path for the external Exchange host here.
  • Use External SSL: Select this option if you want to encrypt the connection between the mail app on the end devices and the external Exchange server via SSL.
