Create policies, profiles, apps and managed configurations in the Cortado Management Portal and then distribute them to your devices, users and groups.
Aim
In this How-To we’ll be giving you an overview of what to be aware of when distributing policies, profiles, apps and managed configurations.
Implementation
- In the Administration Portal, select either Policies, Profiles or Apps and then click on the Plus button to create a new configuration.
- For a detailed description of the steps for creation and configuration, see our help articles for profiles and policies or for apps and managed configurations (iOS and Android).
- Once they’ve been created and configured, Policies, Profiles, Apps and managed configurations must be assigned.
- To do that, select at least one Policy, Profile, App or a managed configuration and then click on Add assignment.
- Then select to either assign to Users, Groups or Devices.
If you are assigning several policies, profiles, apps and managed configurations to the same devices, users or groups, there are some special points to be aware of.
In e following overview you can see the various effects the assignment will have on the device.
Effects on the device
Policies
Basically, the following applies for each platform (Android or iOS):
- Those policies assigned directly to a device override policies assigned to the user of the device or to a group (of which the user is a member).
- Those policies assigned directly to a user override policies assigned to a group of which the user is a member.
- If multiple policies are assigned to the same user (or to the same group or device), these are combined and the most restrictive setting will always be applied.
You can find detailed information on these conditions along with examples of their application in our help article Special conditions when assigning multiple policies.
Profiles, Apps and managed configurations
The situation is different when assigning profiles, apps and managed configurations. Here, every assignment is always taken into account on the devices. Nothing is overwritten.
If, for example, profile A is assigned to an Android device, profile B to the user of that device and profile C to a group (of which the user is a member), all three profiles are applied to that Android device. The same also applies in the assignment of apps and managed configurations.
All profiles, apps and managed configurations, no matter whether they have been assigned to the device, the user or the group, will be applied.
