Cortado Server supports Apple’s native print option and thus offers comprehensive print support for iOS devices. It makes it possible to print directly to a network printer within the firm whether it’s an email printed from the email app or a web page directly from the browser, as well as printing from all other apps that support native iOS printing.
If a print job is initiated by a user in any app, the printer name and the file are sent to the Cortado server via IPP over port 631 and then forwarded to the print server. The file is rendered there and then sent to the printer.
All shared and AD released printers that use a native driver, and any printer connected directly to the Cortado server will be recognized as a device for native iOS printing. It is essential that the printers have been previously assigned to a user (see section Printing to network printers). All existing network printers supports the native iOS printing option.
Note! Here, select only printers with native drivers. In other words: Do not select TP Output Gateway or Cortado Output Gateway print objects here.
The iOS Printing Support for native iOS printing is enabled on the Cortado server by default.
To be able to use the native printing option from Apple:
- Check that the Enable iOS-Printing Support checkbox is enabled under Global→ Settings→ MDM→ Configure→ Others.
- Assign printer favorites to the users (see the section Printing to network printers).
If, instead of the recommended Cortado profile (iOS Printing Support), you want to use the Bonjour protocol from Apple for printing, Apple iTunes must be installed on the Cortado server. If the Cortado server and the iOS devices are in the same subnet, then the native iOS printer will be found automatically using the Bonjour protocol. However, if the Cortado server and the iOS devices are on different subnets, you need the Cortado profile (iOS Printing Support).
Note! Downloading the Support profile in the User Self Service Portal is only necessary when there is no Apple MDM in use. When the MDM profile is used, all the company printers, as well as Personal Printer are automatically provided by Apple as printers for the native iOS printing option.
